I’m a professor at Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Georgia. Since 2010, I’m leading several scientific-research projects in the directions of linguistics, sociolinguistics, language documentation, textual scholarship and editorial studies, funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF). First, in Georgia, our scientific team under my leadership initiated investigating the personal letters of the 19th-20th cc. Georgian writers and scientist-historians and collecting them in one scholarly edition, enclosed by complete scientific apparatus. Personal letters are the primary source for studying the writer’s and public figures’ epoch. Accordingly, they are the most precious materials for historians in investigating the various problems. We have already issued 8 volumes and are planning to prepare also 22 volumes of this edition. Our edition was the first publication of more than 200 letters. More than 200 letters were dated. Also, first in Georgia, I initiated to fulfill the scholarly edition of the 10-volume set of the Georgian vaudeville. We published two volumes. This project is original and new one because vaudeville is entirely unstudied theme in the history of Georgian literature. I established the peculiarities of the vaudeville as a genre and separated the layer of the vaudeville from the comedy genre. As a result of the fundamental research, each piece was given relative qualification, several pieces were first published in our edition. I conducted large-scale sociolinguistic research on the problems of the endangered languages. I issued three monographs, and together with my colleagues, I prepared three volumes of the Tsovatush-Georgian-Russian-English dictionary and four volumes of the Tsovatush texts. In the monographs, I investigated the problems of the endangered language, impact of the society and environment on the language, the ecology of the Tsovatush language and the issues, connected with it, the reasons causing the danger of this language, also the structural-functional features of code-switching according to the Tsovatush-Georgian bilingual speech and so on. The research outcomes will contribute to the development of the sociolinguistic field in Georgia.
